Not a day goes by that some coxswain doesn't ask us about our style of racing. They want to know what it is and how we developed it. It has become so bad that we decided to do some research and see what was out there. Apparently nothing.

So many coxswains are told that it is the most important thing in being a great cox, but never told how to develop their own style. This first podcast is an attempt to define what style is, what our styles are and how to develop a style of your own. This is an important topic so we hope this helps everyone out.

Each month U.S. National Team coxswains Mary Whipple and Marcus McElhenney will bring you their show: Shooting it Straight with Mary and Marcus a podcast created exclusively for Row Coach Media.

Submitted by Mary Whipple on January 22, 2007 - 5:43pm.

Just wanted to share an excerpt from an e-mail that Marcus and I received.

"I really enjoyed your first podcast; you articulated things about
coxing that are relatively hard to articulate. Looking forward to more
insight.

A topic/question for your podcast show: Marcus, I don't mean to put
you on the spot, but a few years ago, you made a pretty brutal mistake
at the Head of the Charles..."

With that, if you have any comments about the last podcast or any questions please feel free to post them here or send an e-mail because we do read them. Our next podcast will get into answering the question above as well as rebounding from mistakes to keep your rep and status in the boat. Look for that sometime next week.

Until then,

Mary and Marcus
