Seattle Shows the Women's Team a Good Time
I love the west coast and especially Seattle. So much in fact that people think I grew up from Seattle. This week I got to show my team what Seattle has to offer. So Anna Mickelson and myself worked all of our contacts and we put together a jam packed week for our girls.
Day 1--Row--4x20 min. in the morning and then again in the afternoon. We then got to volunteer our time at the Children's Hospital where we built wooden boats out of tongue depressors and beads.
Day 2--SNOW DAY!! We got to go up to The Summit at Snoqualmie and learn how to Cross Country Ski. The folks up there treated us to a 30 minute lesson and then let us loose on the slopes. This day was the highlight of the trip.
In the evening we all got to attend the Sonics game where they got hammered by the Knicks, but we all had fun getting introduced on center court. We then got to throw T-shirts into the crowd and Susan got to sit on Sir Mix-a-lots lap while getting a picture with him.
Day 3--The eight practiced with the UW women's team and we put together 2 quads with Lia and Lindsay Meyer from Pocock. The water was perfect and it was fun getting to row with another boat right next to you.
In the afternoon we all took a Pilates class organized by Lia Pernell. That was kind of funny see everyone trying to balance in a pike position then rolling onto our backs and right up to stick the pike position again. After Pilates some girls went to the UW basketball game where they got introduced again to the crowd.
Day 4--Mother Nature came in and pretty much made us erg for the morning..3X10 min. all out. We then were supposed to go Snow Shoeing, but the Pass was closed. We decided to split up into two groups and go running. Anna took the "fast group" running through the muddy Arboretum while I took the "medium-slow" group on the Interlaken run. Both groups ran 60 min. The Mickelson family then had us over to their home and gave us a feast of lasagna and spaghetti.
Day 5--Last Day--We took out an eight and a quad and did about 14k. We then came back around 2pm and did an erg at heart rate 150-160 pace. Tonight Maria Steven's family is treating us to Ivar's Seafood Restaurant.
Now it is off to the airport and back to Princeton for 3 weeks until we head of to see the boys for one day of overlap in San Diego.
