The entry below is one i wrote a while ago, but never posted. We are in Clemson now getting somewhat closer to kind of figuring out what could be the final line ups. I recently went to Ohio State for the 30 year anniversary of the club progam and there just so happen to be an indoor rowing race the same weekend. Lucky me. I don't recommend combining a rowing reunion party and and erg test.

Some concerns have been expressed in this group (Left Arm Tan) that we are misspelling the title and it should be Guise instead of Juice. To help deal with this issue I refer you to the eighties cult classic Beetlejuice. In the movie BeetleJuice, who is an exorcist of the living for the dead, advertises his services in a flyer and television commercial.

"Dude, check out the old guy bumpin' Jay-Z in that dented out Protege with busted rims. Is he really singing out loud?" I said to myself as a caught a glimpse of the rearview on my way to practice.

Those of you who know me know that I live, and sometimes get yelled at, by the motto: “Rest is Best”. It’s a belief that has developed over years of living in constant awareness/fear of over training. A real threat when the majority of your rowing career feels like every cell in your ragged, aging body is saying you could really use a day to RELAX, or at least a morning to sleep in.

Being Calm

I just watched a segment on Sports Center about the Jets. They have been working with a boxing trainer taking concepts used in the ring and applying them to the football field. The gist of the segment I saw was about being calm. They were doing drills that enforced being loose, calm and focused. The phrase that stuck with me was, "stay calm. If you are calm, then you can see more, and the more you can see the more you can do".
